* What is NRTL?... NRTL is short for Nationally Recognized Testing Lab. They are organizations that test equipment to meet safety standards. They are all the same under the law. You may recognize them by their stickers; UL, ETL, CSA, TUV to name a few. CE and ROHS are not NRTL, but instead comply with european standards. Cheaper equipment usually isn't tested or listed by a NRTL. Most lighting products intended for mobile DJs are not listed and it is not uncommon for your local nightclub to be filled with them. Some venues and insurance policies require all products to be NRTL listed. Your local fire/electric code and fire marshal/electrical inspector may also require NRTL listed fixtures for permanent installs.

*What does FDA Varianced mean?... for short, it means they are legal. Lasers are technically radiation devices and are therefore regulated by the FDA. Higher powered lasers (anything above 5mw, average laser pointer) are not considered safe for consumer use and require a Federal Variance to manufacture, buy and use. Lasers found on craigslists, ebay or chinese import websites are rarely legal. Florida requires the lasers to be registered with the State Department of Health as well as show notification. Some local jurisdictions also require permits.
